There is no in-house treatment or requirement to attend a specific recovery program, but participating in 12 steps is popular at Oxford Houses. A new member of the House must be interviewed by current residents and must receive an 80 percent approval vote to be accepted. Residents elect officers every six months, do household chores and pay rent. All rent goes to the maintenance of the house.
A person can only be accepted into Oxford House once they have been sober for a long time. A general degree of sobriety is not necessary. After completing a rehabilitation program in some way or at least for at least five to ten days, people who receive treatment at Oxford House usually leave. People who are recovering from alcoholism or substance abuse can live in Oxford House and, at the same time, avoid drinking alcohol and using drugs and contribute part of the expenses to the organization.
Oxford House's main objective is to provide housing and rehabilitation support for alcoholics and drug addicts who want to stop drinking or using drugs and continue not to. Each of the more than 2,300 houses in the Royal City of Oxford is maintained by the men and women who reside in these Oxford Houses, as well as by those who reside outside the city. Depending on where you live in a house in Oxford, you'll pay a different amount in living and rent expenses than in other places.
